Group size can be one or more. To me, the ideal group is 4 to 8 hikers. Larger groups should include at least 2 experienced hikers. Over the years, our average size group has been 12 persons with 2 guides. For self-guided hikes you may make up your own group size to suit you.
Not everyone likes to hike at the same pace, so it is desirable to try to find a pace that averages the group’s abilities. Hikes are not athletic events. Hiking with groups would be considered moderate, designed for hikers who are in normal good health and regularly hike. You should be able to do 6-8 miles daily and be able to ascend 2,000 feet in a normal day. Self-guided hikers can choose their pace and not be affected by others.
Group members usually have professional and business backgrounds with ages ranging from 20’s to 70’s. Half the group is generally couples with the remainder about evenly split with singles. Self-guided groups you make up yourself.
Prices are based on double occupancy and include all expenses except lunches. Meals (breakfast and dinner) may be at the hotel or at local restaurants. Beverages are not included at dinner. All rooms have private bath when available. Single rooms are available at extra cost. All hotels are 3 or 4 star. Meals are excellent. NOTE: On the Haute Route, Tour of Mont Blanc and the Alpine Pass, mountain hotels are used, as well as mountain huts. These accommodations generally have shared baths, some have dormitory sleeping.
If you plan to travel alone, you will need a private room.
If a trip is canceled for any reason, you will receive a full refund. If you must cancel up to 120 days before departure, you will receive a full refund less deposit. If you cancel 90 to 120 days before departure, you will receive a 50% refund of any moneys paid, less deposit. If you cancel within 90-60 days before departure, you will receive a 25 % refund less deposit. If you cancel within 60 days, there is no refund. Tours are subject to cancellation for non-payment of fees in a timely manner as described below.
We strongly recommend you consider buying trip insurance so if you are unable to go for an approved reason, your fees will be refunded.
We ask a $300 deposit when you submit your application. An additional 50% of the balance is then due 120 days before departure. The final 50% is due 90 days before departure.
Insurance may be purchased from us at nominal cost to protect you against your canceling due to illness, accident or family death.
