The Majestic Fjords
Norway Fjords are legendary. When you add hiking to their enjoyment, you experience an entirely different dimension. We start in the city of Bergen famous as center for some of the largest fjords in this beautiful country.
We use small boats on the spectacular Fjords to get around and disembark at quaint fishing villages where we’ll spend the night in beautiful shore side hotels. We’ll then hike up into the surrounding mountains each day returning to our lovely villages each evening. Viewing the Fjords both from the heights as well as at sea level is a unique experience.
After landing at Bergen airport, we’ll take a bus to Bergen to overnight. The next day we’ll take a fjord boat to Gudvangen on Sognefjord, the longest Fjord in Norway. This passage is one of the most impressive since this fjord is so narrow with very high cliffs and innumerable waterfalls. We’ll stay that night at a beautiful hotel at sea side.
The next morning we’ll take a boat on the Sognefjord about 2 hours to Flam and hike up the famous Flam Gorge, a most spectacular 4 to 5 hour hike.
A typical village is Ulvik on Hardanger Fjord with one of the hotels we will use, the beautiful Brakanes Hotel right on the shore.
Other villages we’ll visit by boat are, Kinsarvik, and Lofthus on Hardanger Fjord. Hikes are scheduled each day from our hotels.
The last day we’ll return to Bergen with a thrilling 2 hour boat ride on the new high speed catamarans now in use on some of the fjords up the Hardanger Fjord to Nordheimsund and then to Bergen by bus.
We have the afternoon and evening to explore historic Bergen with its quaint buildings, Nordic art, and beautiful people.
Hotels on the entire trip are four and five star with superb meals.
Itinerary-2 Week Fjord Hikes in Norway:
Day 1 — AR Bergen Check in Hotel
Day 2 — AM Boat on Sognefjord to Gudvangen Stalheim Hotel
Days 3, 4, 5 — Stalheim Hotel, Gudvangen
Day 6 — Boat on Sognefjord to Brakanes Hotel, Ulvik
Days 7, 8, 9 — Brakanes Hotel, Ulvik
Day 10 — Boat on Hardanger Fjord to Lofthus, Ullensvang Hotel
Days 11, 12 Ullensvang Hotel, Lofthus
Day 13 — Boat and Bus to Bergen- Check in Hotel
Day 14 — Flights to USA
